Explorer units are the fifth section of the Scouting family after Scouts. Explorer scouts are young people aged 14-18 and with the support and guidance of unit leaders are encouraged to lead themselves, design their own programme and work towards the top award that Scouting offers.
Explorer Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme including traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking, as well as a wider spectrum of adventurous activities, from abseiling to zorbing.
West Oxfordshire has five Explorer units and a Young Leaders unit, a young person who is a young leader is automatically a member of the young leader unit but may also be a member of another Explorer unit. Explorer units are District based and so members can attend any other unit if they wish.
County Explorer events are run annually including CESAW (County Explorer Scout Activity Weekend) as well as national events such as Gilwell 24 and the monopoly run – the sky’s the limit!
